Why does flash freezing make seafood taste better?
It's the combination of flash freezing which keeps the integrity of the flesh of the fish at time of freezing AND vacuum packing which halts the seafood's exposure to oxygen. That combination preserves the freshness and flavor of our seafood until you’re ready to prepare it for your family.

What kinds of seafood do you provide?
We provide the best of fresh fish in season. Our monthly selections include salmon, sockeye, coho, king; halibut; snapper, sole, cod, swordfish, blue marlin, mahi mahi, shark, ahi tuna, prawns, shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, and lobster.

How do your prices compare with what I'd expect to pay at a grocery store?
Our prices are in line with high quality grocery stores. And we think you'll agree our quality is second to none.

How do you assure quality?
We are as close to the source as can be. Vacuum packing seals in the freshness. Our seafood is vacuum packed immediately after the fish is caught, guaranteeing unparalleled freshness and flavor.

How do I know if seafood is really fresh?
With seafood, you want to test both texture and smell. With texture, you are looking for firmness. With smell, you want your seafood to smell like the sea but not fishy.

Why did you start Surfin' Seafood?
We're in Seattle, one of the seafood capitals of the world. You want steaks delivered to your home, try Omaha. You want seafood, Seattle's the place. We wanted to make high-quality, fresh seafood available – conveniently and inexpensively – throughout the area.

I've read newspaper stories about our oceans being fished out. Is your seafood ecologically sustainable?
Our supplier has a keen focus on purchasing seafood from sustainable fisheries that help protect our ocean fisheries. The fishing industry is becoming more and more regulated for sustainability. However, we can all do our part by altering what we consume, helping our oceans by eating a variety of seafood.

How should I thaw my seafood for preparation?
You can leave your seafood in the vacuum pack and thaw it in lukewarm water, either out or in your refrigerator. If you decide to take the fish out of the vacuum pack, thaw only in a refrigerator.

What if I have leftovers? Do I throw them out?
NO! You won't want to miss a morsel of our wonderful seafood! Eat your leftovers cold or warm them up for up to four days after cooking.

How'd you come up with the name, 'Surfin' Seafood?'
Well, that's where family comes in. The name was dreamed up by 7-year-old Dillon, who had great fun imagining surfing seafood being delivered door to door! We hope you'll enjoy our seafood as much as Dillon enjoyed dreaming up the name. And we hope you'll keep "surfing" up to our web site to browse our selections and place your order!

Do I have to order every month?
We hope you will! But there's no requirement to place an order every month. You can place a standing order for a number of months, or order whenever the whim (or the need for delicious fresh seafood) strikes you.

What about high mercury levels in fish? Should I be worried?
Mercury is prevalent in certain seafoods but not all, so eating a variety of different types of fish (like the ones we provide!) will protect you from any undue exposure.

We love this fish! We've been lucky enough to have Surfin Seafood on a few occasions and have been blown away with the quality and flavor. It is superior to anything in your favorite yuppie supermarket. Like I said, we love this fish!
